Taryn Schuyler - Mrs. Iowa-America 2007
Taryn Schuyler of Johnston, Iowa garnered the title of Mrs. Iowa-America, on June 9, 2007. At the Mrs. America Pageant held in Tucson, Az in September 2007, she was honored by receiving a couple of awards. One of the awards she received was the Most Original Costume Award. Her costume was a unique glamorous representation of corn. Another award she received was the Mrs. America Valliant Award. Taryn earned this award for removing a rattlesnake fang from Mrs. Tennessee's foot. She never imagined that would make national headlines.
Saving Mrs. Tennessee wasn't the only event that put Schuyler in the headlines. After winning the title of Mrs. Iowa, she was forced to make a decision between her job as a nurse at Mercy West Clinic, and the opportunity of a lifetime. Taryn's supervisor refused to give her the two weeks unpaid leave of absence she requested to go and compete for Mrs. America. She pursued her dream and gave her two weeks notice. This story caught the attention of various radio shows, and also Dr. Phil. Taryn was given multiple employment opportunities and is now pursuing a career as a Financial Representative.
Taryn is married to Jayd who trains thoroughbred race horses. He is self employed and they are the owners of Schuyler Racing. Jayd and Taryn have been married for five and half years and are the proud parents of two children. Their son Coleton is 11 years old and daughter, Sidda is 4 years old.
Taryn enjoys shuttling her children to and from their various activities. When time permits, you can find her out on the golf course with friends. She and the kids are also very committed to attending Jayd's horse races.
Early detection and prevention of cervical cancer is Taryn's platform issue. She chose this because of a very personal experience she encountered with cervical cancer. She is very passionate about raising awareness and educating as many people about it as possible.
Taryn is looking forward to an amazing year as she carries out the honor and privilege of representing the beautiful state of Iowa.
